Improve error reporting when creating extracts directory fails

Cory Quammen requested to merge cory.quammen/paraview:22483-better-extracts-error into master

Now the message includes a full path rather than a relative one. Hopefully the full path will help diagnose problems such as not having permission to write to the chosen directory.
