Unbreak legacy macOS < 10.7 (part 1)

This is a partial support for macOS < 10.7, which includes i386 and ppc.

There are two issues which are not addressed in commits because I am not sure how to do it in a compatible with everything else way.

I will open an issue for that and refer here.
