vtkMetaIOReader/Writer classes do not report progress events sufficiently

it would be nice to see progress updates at every 10% of the read or write process of these VTK filters. At least, progress does not appear to be working properly on windows XP/Vista Release builds using Virual Studio 2005 standard edition.
