Fix typos and other things in Ch5

Fixes for chapter 5:

  • Grammar and math typos
  • Put symbols into mathmode when they should be, and take text out of mathmode
  • Fix hyphen and subtraction mixups
  • The following commit has a large deletion and should be looked over a little more carefully: a2199a9e
