Backport for/paraview commits into master

Mathieu Westphal (Kitware) requested to merge mwestphal/qttesting:backport_master_for_paraview into master
  • Backport all missing commits from for/paraview into master
  • Support building as a vtk module (off by default)

Build, tests and examples has been validated locally as a separate lib.
