If current view is empty and of wrong type for new object, replace view rather than split

Start up ParaView and then create a Mandelbrot source with the default values. Because the Mandelbrot is a 2D image, it by default goes into a 2D view rather than the 3D view that is available. The current behavior of ParaView splits the current view, creates a new 2D view, and places the Mandelbrot there.
This behavior feels weird. The 3D view is empty and worthless. What do I need it for? I'm always compelled to delete it (rather than take up space). I think it makes much more sense to replace an empty view with a new view type. This is a generic feature and should work for any view type, not just Mandelbrot/2D images.
