cth timeseries restart files alwasy down convert volume fraction
The CTH timeseries reader always down converts volume fraction data no matter how the Down Convert Volume Fraction checkbox is checked. Here is how to replicate.
- 5.12.0, Linux, builtin server.
- From "Daves Small CTH" or somesuch, there is an example.spcth-timeseries file. This loads spcta_a.[0-3] and spcta_b.[0-3]. If you don't have it, ask me and I can pass it to Kitware. UUR, OK for Phil to pass to Kitware.
- Open this timeseries file. Turn on all variables. Uncheck the Down Convert Volume Fraction checkbox. Apply.
- Note - the Down Convert Fraction checkbox is in the wrong spot. When opening normal CTH files (as provided in this directory), the checkbox is below the Cell Arrays list, not above.
- Spreadsheet View. Be sure the pipeline browser is showing Volume Data, not Tracers.
In the Spreadsheet View, change to showing Cell Data. Notice Material Volume Fraction - 2 shows 255. This should be 1.
A note on what is happening under the covers. CTH is a structured mesh dataset. Volume Fraction is used to represent the percent each cell is filled with this variable. Volume fraction is in the range of 0% to 100%. It is held as a float running from 0.0 to 1.0, taking up 4 bytes. Down Convert moves this into a single unsighed byte running from 0 to 255.
