Paraview aborts when launched in home directory

This issue was created automatically from an original Mantis Issue. Further discussion may take place here.

When attempting to launch paraview-4.0.1 in my home directory (~), I get the following error: "No current working directory \n Aborted". Any other directory (including subdirectories of ~) seem to work. The same error occurs with older versions of Paraview (tested 3.6.1, 3.8.0, 3.12 and 3.98).

Operating system is SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11.2.

The home directory is networked, I believe through SAMBA (I'm just a user in a corporate environment).
