ENH: Cleaning up deprecation issues for 24.01 release

Robert M. O'Bara requested to merge bob.obara/smtk:fixDepricationsFor24.01 into master

Note this included removing Adaptor::reconfigureTask() method. This did break backward compatibility but there was no way to deprecate the method without introducing bad side-effects.
