CMake on Windows 10 is *really* slow
My recursive cmake project blows out to insane times on windows 10....
7 seconds from scratch on linux.... I7 hexacore. ~19 minutes on windows10 with a faster Epyc 128 thread cpu...
What gives here? Seems related to reentrancy of cmake so some basic compiler test it does takes forever on win10 and if we recurse into that test many times the runtime can balloon out to unrealistic times...
I noticed others discussing this issue on 3rd party issue trackers but didn't want to log there..
My project uses lots of cmake recursion and I believe this is why it slows down so much for me. Any reason it's so slow or any tricks to speed it up?
I'm porting a large application to Windows and every -D adjustment in cmake or -I path requires me to wait 19 minutes to see the next error. Painful.
