Generate a CAD model fitted to surface data
The process we have in mind is to start with a surface mesh and
- generate a texture atlas composed of charts that are homeomorphic to disks (initial work done last year)
- break chart boundary edges into model edges based on (some work done last year)
- intersections with other charts (a model edge may bound at most 2 surfaces)
- geometric complexity of shape (allow user to provide hints at where to simplify?)
- fit a spline to each edge
- mesh each chart into a small number of triangles/quads using edges above
- loft spline edges into a surface patch for each mesh element
- stitch spline surfaces into a solid model
