Zabbix Agent 2 for Windows 2019: What's New and How to Get It
Following previous tutorials concerning the Zabbix series, this article describes how to install and set up an instance of a Zabbix agent to run as a service on Microsoft Windows systems in order to monitor your infrastructure windows environments, especially server machines.
1. The pre-compiled zip agents for Windows environments can be obtained from the official Zabbix download page and manually installed and started on the system using windows Command Prompt as in the following example:
**## Download links for files: Link 1
**
4. A second and more convenient method to install and automatically configure the Zabbix agent on Windows environments is by downloading the Zabbix Agent installer MSI package specific to your system architecture.
5. Once the Zabbix agent MSI file has been downloaded on your system, run it and supply the required information in order to configure and install the agent on the target monitored host as it follows:
10. In order to test if the Zabbix agent running on windows is reachable from the Zabbix server-side, use telnet or netcat command on Zabbix server against windows agent IP-Port and a Connected message should appear. Hit Enter key to generate an error message and automatically disconnect from the agent:
11. Once the windows agent has been tested from the command line and everything looks fine, go to Zabbix Server web interface, move to Configuration tab -> Hosts, and hit on Create Host button in order to add the Windows monitored host.
12. On the Host window add the FQDN of your windows agent machine in Hostname filed, add an arbitrary name to Visible name filed in order to easily identify the monitored machine on Zabbix panel, make sure the host is included in a Group Servers, and add the IP Address of your windows host in Agent interfaces filed. The Port value leaves it unchanged.

I wish the better for you! This tutorial helps me a lot! I was trying for days to enable agent on windows for my zabbix and I lost a little, but very important configuration: Choose a template for station. I searched a lot (on Zabbix Manual too) and I only found here! And now it works!
I am installing Zabbix on Ubuntu Serve 16.04. I can install everything. when I add new windows host, got some error like ERROR: Cannot add host, Incorrect arguments passed to function.. I have installed zabbix-agentd on windows and pointing to the correct ip address of Zabbix server.
I followed the guide, added success windows server into zabbix to monitor. guys after added server please reload the zabbix services and wait for whole configuration is reloaded in back end it may be take 5 min or more..
Zabbix Agent is installed on remote systems needs to monitor through Zabbix server. The Zabbix agent collects resource utilization and applications data on client system and provide such information to zabbix server on their requests.
Now make of copy of sample configuration file c:\zabbix\conf\zabbix_agentd.win.conf to create zabbix agent configuration file at c:\zabbix\zabbix_agentd.conf. Now edit configuration and update following values.
- Download the Windows Zabbix Agent from officially Zabbix website. Below is an example for x64 machine with no encryption. Here is the direct download link _agents and select the following from the given options.
Open zabbix_agentd.conf with any editor, even Windows built-in notepad will do the job. Uncomment the following and update accordingly. Save the file once you make changes.
We use msiexec.exe via CMD to install/upgrade our Windows Zabbix agent together with the zabbix_agent2-6.2.5-windows-amd64-openssl.msi.
Below procedure was used in previous upgrades 6.2.0 -> 6.2.3 and proven successful.
Steps to reproduce
- Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 with Windows Zabbix Agent 6.2.3 installed. (Basic config is sufficient)
- Download the zabbix_agent2-6.2.5-windows-amd64-openssl.msi from the official Zabbix Repo. (Location of choice, example: C:\programdata\Zabbixinstall\ )
- Open a CMD prompt with administrator privileges
- Execute following command:
The executed action "C:\Program Files\Zabbix Agent 2\zabbix_agent2.exe" --config "C:\Program Files\Zabbix Agent 2\zabbix_agent2.conf" --stop fails, but is ignored due to a "continue marking".
The "--stop" happens once during the upgrade.
We see the same in log-6.2.3--6.2.5-CMD.txt, but a bit later the following happens.
An extra stop is executed, resulting in a failed without a "continue marking".
Extra info
We also found out that this issue also occurs when upgrade 6.2.3 -> 6.2.4.
We tried upgrading 6.2.0 -> 6.2.4 with no luck either.
There is also a similar question on the Zabbix forum without any response.

Select the agent version you need. I will choose msi (amd64) (without OpenSSL). If you are going to install Zabbix Agent on domain servers/computers using GPO or SCCM, you can download a ZIP archive with binary and configuration files.
Click Add. In order not to wait till the server and agent see each other (it usually takes a couple of minutes), restart Zabbix Agent service on the testnode2 and view the agent log (C:\Program Files\Zabbix Agent\zabbix_agentd.txt).
FileMaker Cloud runs on Linux CentOS. The Zabbix downloads page does not offer a pre-compiled agent for that operating system. Instead, all software installations on CentOS are done through its built-in command line software package manager: yum.
The agent executable is located in the subdirectory bin/win32 or bin/win64 choose the one that is appropriate for your architecture and place it on some directory in the Windows machine. For simplicity, we have created a new folder C:\zabbix , but you are free to use any other directory. We will also need the configuration file, so grab the example provided at \conf\zabbix_agentd.win.conf, place it in the same directory and rename it to zabbix_agentd.conf.
This is a wave-particle duality situation: if I run this script from command line (User, Administrator, System - the same), it gives 1, because it receives the output from rstcli64.exe; and if zabbix-agent runs this exact script, it gets nothing from rstcli64.exe, thus gives 0.
It just does it with rstcli64.exe. With few other command line tools I get the same output when manually running script in cmd and triggering it from zabbix-agent. Again, only in PowerShell 5.1 in Windows Server 2019, so...
For Administration scripts that run on the agent, you will also need to edit the zabbix_agentd.conf. Set set EnableRemoteCommands = 1, and/or modify the DenyKey/AllowKey properties depending on your version of the Zabbix agent.
Using the new Windows Subsystem for Linux feature you can install a zabbix server or a proxy on windows 2019 or Windows 10 easily. I have created an installation guide for zabbix proxies. How to install Zabbix Proxy on Windows
Windows however has proven to be a challenge lately. Normally my process was turn on Windows update in XOA, check for updates and bam there they were citrix tools downloading. I do have an older windows 7 machine (labeled UPI) that was one of the first to work with the XOA way of applying tools.
