Sampling Color Tables (CUDA versus non-CUDA)
The rendering library can be compiled with cuda, and used by code that does not compile with cuda. The issue is that this results in errors because the color table was not compiled with cuda and is being being transferred to the device for sampling.
This seems like a common use case and we should provide sampling methods that don't depend on device code. The current fix is to force a serial device when sampling in the rendering library.
