Configuring your Slicer build: Slicer can be customized using the Application Settings Interface. Open this utility by selecting View->Application Settings from the File Menu, or by using the F2 hot-key. Any options selected in this panel will be saved in the Application Registry and restored each time you start Slicer. Many useful options are provided within the interface's sub-panels: font family and size can be adjusted using the Font Settings panel, the Slicer Settings panel allows you to specify paths to web browsers and other useful applications, and the Remote Data Handling Settings panel allows you to select data caching options.

Adding and Removing Modules: Slicer has two basic types of modules, Loadable Modules and Command Line Plugins. By default, Slicer starts up with all modules included. You can customize Slicer to include only the Loadable and Command Line modules you need; which keeps Slicer as compact as possible and accelerates application startup time. To customize Slicer this way, select the Application Settings Interface's Module Settings panel.

In this panel:

  • Deselecting the Load Modules checkbutton allows you to supress all Loadable Modules.
  • Selecting the Load Modules checkbutton will cause all modules selected in the Select Modules panel (shown above) to be loaded next time you start up Slicer.
  • Deselecting the Load Command-Line Plugins checkbox will surpress all Command-Line modules, and
  • Selecting that checkbutton will include all Command-Line modules next time you start up.
