PV 5.6.0 RC2 can not open .vtk.series file: A reader could not be found
As begun to discuss here: #18251 (closed) , although the changelog states that a .vtk.series reader has been implemented, it does not seem to work. Tested with 5.6.0 RC2 on Win7x64 and CentOS7x64.
I tested two differen scenarios to rule out the dependency of the vtk.series-reader reading from subdirectories or not.
Attached "Backflow.vtk.series" is a json-file for loading multiple vtks from subdirectories, whereas "Backflow_test.vtk.series" is a shortened example file to load vtks from the same directory as the .series file.
ParaView's open dialog lets me select the .series.vtk files, but upon opening I get the following error:
So ParaView appears not to know which reader to use. None of the readers given seem to indicate that it could be the right one (and if the right one was among the list, why isn't it selected by default in the first place?)
Is there any additional plugin necessary? Is my .series file wrongly formated?
I am currently working around this issue by converting all my vtk files to vtp files (slightly smaller memory footprint) and creating a .pvd file for storing the series information, the upsides being:
- I can specify the time value for each file (might come in handy one time)
- I can leave the files in their time encoded subdirectories (openFOAM file structure) which is good because all vtks have the same name which would have to be changed if I moved all files to the top level directory to create a series of consecutively named files The only downside is that I have to convert each file since openFOAM currently can not write vtp files directly
[TL;DR;] What reader do I have to choose (and plugin to enable) to read .vtk.series files, and can it be modified so it does support subdirectories like the pvd-reader does? !2751 (6026c3b7) states at around line 154 that the .vtk.series reader is supported.
