The array calculator should be able to operate on field data. I think there are two use cases for this. First, there should be a field data option in addition to point data and cell data that allows the calculator to create a new field data array. Second, there probably should be a way to apply a field data variable to the calculation of point or cell data.5.6 (Fall 2018)Cory Quammencory.quammen@kitware.comCory Quammencory.quammen@kitware.comhttps://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/22550Import Scene does not load camera position2024-03-27T09:11:05-04:00Mathieu Westphal (Kitware)Import Scene does not load camera positionImport Scene does not load camera position, but does load other camera parameters

I'm not sure if it sometimes works in client-only mode, but it seems to consistently fail in client-server mode. To replicate the problem, do the following:
1. Start ParaView in client-server mode. (Running `pvserver` on localhost is fine.)
2. Load this state file: [simple-animation.pvsm](/uploads/c65d5b943366cd64cccfa23728472db8/simple-animation.pvsm)
3. Hit `Play` and verify you see a camera animation of a cone.
4. Go to `File` -> `Save Animation...` and save the data as a series of `.png` files.
Note that when you attempt to save the animation, it only saves one image at the beginning of the animation.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/22536Programmable filter failing to write row output to spreadsheet in parallel2024-03-19T01:05:37-04:00W. I’m going to do a full writeup here for Alan to write up the bug report. I’m doing this in two side-by-side instances of ParaView 5.12.0. (Linux client both sides.) One instance, which I will refer to as Remote, is connected to 2 nodes on the HPC (specifically Ghost) (Note Alan, this will be 56*2, or 112 ranks.). The other instance, which I will refer to as Local, is just running directly on the remote machine I’m using.
* For both Local and Remote, I open up the simulation at the location /snip/(dave karelitz's small dataset) cth-small/spcta_a in the Open File dialog box
* Turn on all Cell Arrays and hit accept.
* Add a Programmable Filter to the pipeline, change output type to vtkTable, paste in the below code block, and hit accept
```
a = vtk.vtkDoubleArray()
a.SetNumberOfTuples(1)
a.SetValue(0, mean(inputs[0].CellData['Pressure (dynes/cm^2^)']))
a.SetName('max')
output.RowData.AddArray(a)
```
* For both, the Spreadsheet view opens up:
* For Local, the Spreadsheet opens up to Row Data and displays the single value, with the name “max”. There is just one row, and only one other column (Row ID).
* For Remote, the Spreadsheet opens up to Field Data, displaying all the Field Data stuff. When I manually switch to Row Data, it shows nothing in the Spreedsheet View.
Bonus Points: Error Messages – For each instance, I add the following line to the Programmable filter in the second-to-last position (right above output.RowData.AddArray(a)) ->
```
raise ValueError(a.GetValue(0))
```
* For Local, the Output Messages dialog window opens up and displays the expected Value Error with the calculated max value. The SpreadSheet view goes blank as expected due to a Value Error.
* For Remote, nothing changes. No dialog window pops up. Note: I recall that in 5.11.<whichever>, the dialog window would open up and display the value, so this is new behavior.
* I don’t actually know how else to check the output logs using the ParaView GUI, but if you let me know I’ll check them. Note that the Value Error does write to the terminal running the Local instance, but does not for the Remote instance.
To reiterate a previous point, I used a similar workflow with pvbatch with 2 nodes (on Ghost, which was running 5.12.0), and it seems to have worked, as it exported the values over time. I double checked by trying to Export Data on the Remote Instance, even though the Row Data showed as empty, but it just wrote a .csv with TimeStep and Time column titles but no data.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/22533Override attribute in plugins xml property is ignored2024-03-14T12:20:09-04:00Timothée Coubletimothee.couble@kitware.comOverride attribute in plugins xml property is ignoredThe `override="1"` attribute in a ParaView plugin can be ignored if an other plugin is loaded afterwards.

Unfortunately, as I have a dark-themed ParaView, I have to switch to white background to generate illustrations and doing so I loose my custom dark color palette.
In addition, I loose this palette whenever I load a state corresponding to such use case too (except if I kill ParaView not properly).
I am not sure how to address the fact that loading a state and then closing ParaView may break my carefully tuned theme, but I would like a way to export it so I can recover my custom color palette when needed. Something similar to exporting a colormap would be great.

I find that rendering with OSPRay is currently broken on the `master` branch. I'm on Ubuntu Linux 22.04. I'm compiling with OSPRay and MPI enabled. To repro, in the paraview GUI, add a `PartitionedDataSetCollection` Source and `Apply` it, then in the `Properties` dialog check the box labeled `Enable Ray Tracing`. The expected output is a color mapped surface similar to what the GL backend generates, the actual output is that only the background is visible.
I believe that OSPRay's `renderFrame()` function gets called, but no data is passed on to VTK's Rendering/OSPRay module (I have an ANARI port on a branch where I can confirm the ANARI backend gets created, `renderFrame()` gets called, but no scene data is present).
I `git bisect`ed the issue and the compromising commit is: https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/commit/62924fbe41d39d74d4cd2d60fd9a365470371f06

For many finite element analysis (e.g., the Sierra suite of solvers) solvers, many field variables are only applicable to certain types of elements (e.g., stresses at particular integration points through the thickness of shells). Considering only the Exodus database format, loading all element blocks and visualizing such a field variable results in other elements being displayed in a color that starkly contrasts with the rest of the visualization, polluting the display. For output Exodus databases containing numerous (100s to 1000s) element blocks of different element formulations, the process of manually selecting or deselecting element blocks based on element formulation is a tedious process. If instead the element formulations were gathered upon reading the metadata of an Exodus output database, a user had the ability to toggle particular types of elements (e.g., BEAM, TRIANGLE, SHELL, ...), the process of visualizing and postprocessing results would be streamlined.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/22519ParaView plugins recompile even when nothing changed - CMP01162024-03-19T11:17:19-04:00Timothée Coubletimothee.couble@kitware.comParaView plugins recompile even when nothing changed - CMP0116Hi,

It seems that adding `cmake_policy(SET CMP0116 NEW)` to `CMake/vtkModuleWrapClientServer.cmake` solve the issue.

I'm encountering a glitch with the new version. I hope, my description below helps:
* I'm rendering an unstructured grid with scalar point values.
* It's surface is visualised with a colour map that has a transparency gradient.

* I apply a contour filter with three levels which inherit the semi-transparent colour map.

* I reenable the original data in the pipeline browser as well and I get a glitch

Depth peeling is turned off
Version: Paraview 5.12 MPI from the MSI installer on Windows 11 (Intel UHD Graphics 620)
This worked on Paraview 5.11.1
The glitch persists until both are hidden and only the initial data set is unhidden again or only the initial data set is hidden.

When I remove the check from “Triangulate the slice” click off the slice in the Pipeline Browser and back on, the dropdown reappears.
This did not happen in earlier versions and is probably not intentional?5.12.1 (Spring 2024)Spiros TsalikisSpiros Tsalikishttps://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/22501File -> SaveAnimation does not work with non temporal dataset2024-03-07T04:22:54-05:00Mathieu Westphal (Kitware)File -> SaveAnimation does not work with non temporal dataset - Wavelet, Apply

This continues to populate the output messages popup for the entire time you have it displayed. If the object is moved around it populates it faster.
I tested this with the builtin on v5.12.0-RC3 and it did not display these errors. I also tested it with 5.11.1 both built-in and remote server and it did not display these warnings.
I also noticed that if you move the object around that it has a lot of aliasing happening. Attached is a screenshot of what I am seeing.
