There been some recent discussion about a fairly reasonable two pass transparency trick that would be nice to have in VTK (for paraview). ---
One of the things selecting ordered composite should do is help when rendering transparent surfaces. Unfortunatly, when this option is on, the colors are wrong.
The problem is that ordered compositing does alpha blending of images (generally good for compositing transparent items), but the alpha values in the color buffer are wrong.
The problem is that the blending mode is set to glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA,GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA). Although many people think this is appropriate for the Porter & Duff OVER operation, it is not (it gets the color right but the alpha wrong).
There are two ways to get the OVER operation right. The first involves using a special blending mode available in OpenGL 1.3. Unfortunatly, many cheaper implementations still do not support this.
The other way involves setting the blend function to glBlendFunc(GL_ONE,GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA) AND premultiplying the polygon colors by their alpha. For example, the RGBA value of a full intensity red with half opacity is (0.5, 0, 0, 0.5) instead of (1, 0, 0, 0.5) (i.e., the RGB values are "premuliplied" by the alpha).https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2346Smart file sequence determination2019-03-05T10:54:10-05:00Kitware RobotSmart file sequence determination**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2346). A filter which accepts inputs
1) vtkDataset
2) vtkPolyData
Can't be instantiated in the gui. When trying to, paraview segfaults if the highlighted dataset is of type vtkDataSet. When the highlit data is vtkPolyData is is sometimes possible to instantiate the filter.
I've examined vtkGlyph3D and vtkPVGlyph filters to see how they cope, but it seems that things behave better when the input is a member of the glyphsources group.
An example of a mutiple input filter that works would be very useful.
I'd like to process heirarchical data, but paraview also crashes if I try to instantiate my filter with one of these selected.
The stack trace is so convoluted and long it's hard to follow the sequence of events leading to the crash. Always occurs in vtkkwutilites
