head off many crashes with hypertreegrid data

David E. DeMarle requested to merge demarle/paraview:head-off-htgintofilter-crashes into master

work is underway to revand the datastructure such that it conforms well to the dataset api, but until that is in place this will head off most of the crashes where dataset filters fail to operate on HTGs.
