Symmetrical log scaling
Please add a symmetrical log scaling option to ParaView. Reading the request below, I suspect the user is actually asking for two things. First is allowing users to log scale the color map (functionality exists). Second is to be able to symmetrically flip and append the color map. Note this second issue was written up here: #17238 .
From my user:
I’d like to request a symmetrical log color scale in ParaView. The purpose is to color logarithmically-varying fields that have both positive and negative values. There is a button that says “use log scale when mapping data to colors” and I would really love to see a second one that says “use symlog scale ...”.
Relevant matplotlib docs: https://matplotlib.org/stable/api/scale_api.html#matplotlib.scale.SymmetricalLogScale
This is a pain to do now, but technically possible. In case this helps, here’s the procedure that I’d like to not have to do any more
Threshold the field twice into positive and negative Write a calculator on the negative threshold to turn it positive. Visualize the positive threshold and the calculator on the negative threshold, each with log scale. If you want linear regions as matplotlib delivers, one could simply add two more thresholds.
