Paraview 5.9.1 fails to render in Windows 10 in VMWare (probably after recent Windows update)

There's a VTK-based application from a partner company that we use that's started having drawing issues, seemingly after a recent Windows Update (though I'm not certain about that). On a hunch, we tried Paraview 5.9.1 (newest), it being the exemplar VTK-based application. Similar drawing issues occur with it.

So we applied every (non-beta) Windows update available, and still it occurs.

It should be noted this is running in VMWare (and we updated that to newest too).

The host is:

  • Mac Mini running macOS 10.15.7 running VMWare Fusion 12.1.2. '3D Acceleration' is enabled in VMWare.

The guest is:

  • Windows 10 Pro, version 10.0.19041 Build 19041

For Paraview, I just launch it, choose one of the examples it offers at launch, and the window is invisible/transparent. As per this screenshot:

Note that right-clicking within the window gives the expected popup menu.

Hopefully you can repro in VMWare too. Otherwise, perhaps there are some logs or something I could provide?

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
