Gradient filter error message is horrible
Please modify the Gradient filter error message to be more descriptive. Currently, if you try to take a gradient of a scalar (a no-no), you get the following:

Aren't you just trying to say: Input array must be a 3 component vector? Say the word vector! As a trivial nit, add a space between the two sentences!
