Clear search in properties panel more easily
This issue was created automatically from an original Mantis Issue. Further discussion may take place here.
I've been using the search bar at the top of the properties panel more frequently as a handy way to get to advanced features. However, one annoyance with its behavior is that once I type something into it, there is no quick way to remove the search. I usually click in the search edit box, which does nothing but change the focus, and hit backspace a bunch of times. Hopefully I clicked at the end of the word so that I don't have to move the cursor around to delete everything.
Ideally, when you typed something in the search box, an X icon would appear inside the text edit box at the right side that when clicked would clear the selection. This is, for example, the behavior of the search box in the Mac Preview application. I have attached screen shots of this search box both before and after typing something in search.
That may be too hard to implement in Qt. If so, a viable alternative might be to simply to select all the text in the search box once it gets focus. That way it is just a click in the search and press backspace to clear out the contents.
It might also be nice if the search was automatically cleared on certain events like changing the selection in the pipeline browser, but I don't know if that would have an otherwise negative effect elsewhere in the user experience.
