Request for enhancement: Provide cmake variable to use system installed VTK during building
This issue was created automatically from an original Mantis Issue. Further discussion may take place here.
I package paraview RPM's for openSUSE [1].
It would be a nice improvement on the cmake script if it allowed a simple variable to use the VTK installed in a user's system for building paraview, instead of the VTK bundled with paraview's source tarball itself. Fedora does this, for example, by patching the file VTK/CMakeLists.txt in the source tarball with the patch here [2]. Among other things, it would reduce the size of the RPM and make it easier to hunt bugs in the sense that the system would have one consistent version of vtk instead of two versions (one from an installed vtk itself, and the other the bundled vtk with paraview).
Thanks a lot for the excellent software!
