As part of its operation, ordered compositing cuts polygons. If normals are defined, the shading sometimes gets dorked pretty baddly at the place where the geometry is cut.
Most likely, this is due to poor interpolation of the normals when the polygons are cut.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2953SNL: Flat shading on polygons ruins PT2019-03-05T10:53:44-05:00Kitware RobotSNL: Flat shading on polygons ruins PT**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2953). If you have a surface and a volume rendered with PT on at the same time, and the surface is rendered with flat shading, the volume rendering is wrong.
The problem is probably that the OpenGL state is change to do flat shading, and never changed back for the PT algorithm, which needs smooth interpolation.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2926Startup fails with: "vector iterator not dereferencable"2019-03-05T10:53:44-05:00Kitware RobotStartup fails with: "vector iterator not dereferencable"**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2926). Compiler: Visual Studio 8.0
After building with Visual Studio 8.0, startup fails with: "vector iterator not dereferencable"
The problem seems to be in vtkClientServerStream.cxx line 240:
memcpy(&*this->Internal->Data.end() - length, data, length);
Called from: vtkProcessModule.cxx line 793.
A possible solution is to change vtkClientServerStream.cxx line 240 to:
vtkClientServerStream.cxx line 240:
memcpy(&this->Internal->Data.end() - length, data, length);
But you should check if this->Internal->Data is empty first.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2913Crash when saving image2019-03-05T10:53:44-05:00Kitware RobotCrash when saving image**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2913). I recently compiled ParaView 2.4.2 on several platforms (IRIX/IRIX64, linux.ix86, linux.x86_64, and linux.altix) with Mesa-6.4.1 for offscreen rendering. Offscreen rendering works for all ParaView executables except pvbatch. When I ran ctest for each build (with the screen xlocked) all tests involving pvbatch failed. I also compiled ParaView 2.4.2 with Mesa-6.2.1 to make sure that the problem was not with Mesa; pvbatch did not render offscreen in this case either. When a proxy saves its state, it also saves the IDs for its subproxies in the XML. The state loader should be able to read these IDs. The advatage of this being that if any subproxy (of a proxy) is set as the value for a proxy property on any proxy, then the state can be loaded failthfully. Start with a large object (about 1000 units along any axis) with a polygon surface. Make an animation where the camera completely spins around it. Now animate the camera.
If you are in client/server mode and the composite flag in the view properties is on, you should see some artifacts appear in the animation. (Note, you really only need 1 process on the server. Actual compositing need not occur, only rendering on the server.)
The artifacts appear to be zbuffer fighting. I am guessing that for some reason during animation the near plane of the camera is set to close to the viewpoint. Once you see the artifacts, they remain after you turn the animation off and use the mouse to change the camera. The artifacts go away if you hit the reset view button and return if you go to any time step.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2719SNL: Socket buffering problem on MAC2019-03-05T10:53:51-05:00Kitware RobotSNL: Socket buffering problem on MAC**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2719). ---
D3 has a feature where it can accept a point data array in which each entry has a unique id across all processes (unless the point is duplicated on another process in which case the ids will be consistent). D3 uses this array to collapse duplicated points once the data is redistributed. Currently, the Exodus reader can provide this global id array and greatly speed D3's performance.
The problem occurs when you first run the data through a filter that invalidates the meaning of the global id array. For example, the glyph filter will place a glyph on points, and each point in the glyph inherits the same global id from the original point the glyph was placed. When the glyphs are run through D3, D3 collapse all the points in each glyph into a single point, making all the polygons degenerate.
It is important that this behavior be corrected because, when parallel volume rendering is on, everything is run through D3. Thus, when parallel rendering is on, glyphs originating from Exodus files often dissapear. Tubes and isosurfaces are two other examples with similar results.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2704SNL: MAC client not getting correct visual2019-03-05T10:53:57-05:00Kitware RobotSNL: MAC client not getting correct visual**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2704). If you give vtkDataSetTriangleFilter an unstructured grid that has only simplexes, it should simply pass the data. Instead, the filter appears to process every cell.

The ZSweep mapper is not correctly rendering when there is a concavity. I suspect the problem is that ZSweep is not properly recording when a face is external (or perhaps its direction) and is filling empty space between non adjacent cells as if there was a cell there.
The attached pvs file provides some data that demonstrates the problem. It is a Wavelet source with the higher values thresholded out. This leaves an empty space in the middle. When you turn on ZSweep, you see that in any place you have cells-space-cells, it looks really solid. It does not with either PT or Bunyk.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2655SNL: Client/server state saved wrong2019-03-05T10:53:57-05:00Kitware RobotSNL: Client/server state saved wrong**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2655). When in client server mode, critical commands are missing in the pvs files written when "Save Session State" is selected. In standalone mode, the first few lines to set the state of glyphs looks something like this:
<pre>
# Glyph Sources
set kw(vtkTemp876) [$kw(vtkTemp2) GetPVSource GlyphSources Arrow0]
set kw(vtkTemp877) [$kw(vtkTemp876) GetPVWidget {TipResolution}]

set kw(vtkTemp901) [$kw(vtkTemp876) GetPVWidget {ShaftRadius}]
$kw(vtkTemp901) SetValue 0.03
$kw(vtkTemp876) AcceptCallback
</pre>
When you save the state in client/server mode, the set kw(vtkTemp*) commands are missing.
<pre>
$kw(vtkTemp893) SetValue 6
$kw(vtkTemp899) SetValue 0.1
$kw(vtkTemp905) SetValue 0.35
$kw(vtkTemp911) SetValue 6
$kw(vtkTemp917) SetValue 0.03
$kw(vtkTemp892) AcceptCallback
</pre>

We have noticed that often when making streamlines in a parallel job, that the calculation is much longer than in serial, and that the filter sometimes never finishes. Further investigation revieled that the streamlines themselves are often longer.
To test this further, I made a vector field that is a vortex that spins around the Z axis (see the pvs file attached). When you make a streamline in the field in parallel, every time the stream crosses a processer boundary, you can see that the length and time parameters are reset to 0. You can verify this by the length of the streamline and by drawing the time field on it.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2653SNL: RGrid to cut plane to glyph sometimes fails2019-03-05T10:53:57-05:00Kitware RobotSNL: RGrid to cut plane to glyph sometimes fails**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2653). Here is a weird one. Start up ParaView with client/server with 2 processes on the server. Make a "Wavelet" source with the default values. Then make a cut plane, again with the default values. Everything looks normal. Now, add a glyph filter to the cut plane. Oops, the glyphs do not appear. Move the cut plane just a little bit in any direction, and the glyphs appear.
I think the problem is that the cut plane happens to intersect the rectilinear grid right at the point between process boundaries. Perhaps all the cells in the cut plane are marked as ghost, and the glyph filter ignores them.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2652SNL: Range of thrid component wrong.2019-03-05T10:53:57-05:00Kitware RobotSNL: Range of thrid component wrong.**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2652). While making a toy vector field with rectilinear data, I noticed that when I made a streamline it was nothing close to what I expected. Attached is a pvs file that sets up a 20^3 image with a simple vector field that spins around the X axis. You would expect a streamline to form a circle around the X axis, but what you get is a streamline that seems to go in completely the wrong direction.
The problem only seems to happen in rectilinear data. Segmentation fault under Linux when trying to set display style to "volume rendering" on EnSight Data.
Data is hexahedral (unstructured) mesh, with cell values; using "Tetrahedralize" and "Cell Data to Point Data" do not help (the stack backtrace is
similar).
The same bug occurs on the same machine with ParaView CVS (compiled from source)
and 2.4 (paraview.org binary), not on 2.2.1 (paraview.org binary). It also
occurs on another Linux machine running Debian (Sarge), so it does not seem to
be system dependent.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2498Multiple input filters fail in Paraview2019-03-05T10:54:04-05:00Kitware RobotMultiple input filters fail in Paraview**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2498). A filter which accepts inputs
1) vtkDataset
2) vtkPolyData
Can't be instantiated in the gui. When trying to, paraview segfaults if the highlighted dataset is of type vtkDataSet. When the highlit data is vtkPolyData is is sometimes possible to instantiate the filter.
I've examined vtkGlyph3D and vtkPVGlyph filters to see how they cope, but it seems that things behave better when the input is a member of the glyphsources group.
An example of a mutiple input filter that works would be very useful.
I'd like to process heirarchical data, but paraview also crashes if I try to instantiate my filter with one of these selected.
The stack trace is so convoluted and long it's hard to follow the sequence of events leading to the crash. Always occurs in vtkkwutilites

---
One of the things selecting ordered composite should do is help when rendering transparent surfaces. Unfortunatly, when this option is on, the colors are wrong.
The problem is that ordered compositing does alpha blending of images (generally good for compositing transparent items), but the alpha values in the color buffer are wrong.
The problem is that the blending mode is set to glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA,GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA). Although many people think this is appropriate for the Porter & Duff OVER operation, it is not (it gets the color right but the alpha wrong).
There are two ways to get the OVER operation right. The first involves using a special blending mode available in OpenGL 1.3. Unfortunatly, many cheaper implementations still do not support this.
The other way involves setting the blend function to glBlendFunc(GL_ONE,GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA) AND premultiplying the polygon colors by their alpha. For example, the RGBA value of a full intensity red with half opacity is (0.5, 0, 0, 0.5) instead of (1, 0, 0, 0.5) (i.e., the RGB values are "premuliplied" by the alpha).https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/2346Smart file sequence determination2019-03-05T10:54:10-05:00Kitware RobotSmart file sequence determination**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=2346). This appears to have cropped up recently on the CVS trunk. It's not a problem with my static builds, nor with my 2.2 shared builds.
