The Edit/ Find data command is a fabulous tool. However, it really needs a few more features.
* Checkbox that turns text on or off on the cell or point on the 3d view. Include the ability to display multiple pieces of data, such as cell global Id and temperature.
* Ability for the user to select (using the mouse or p key) on a cell or point, and have the data display. I.e., merging of the spreadsheet view (where you select data with a mouse) and the find data query results (where you select data with a keyboard).
* Allow the user to keep this dialog box up, and be able to interact with ParaView. This dialog should not be forced to close between uses.
* <<This one is manditory, and very important>> The ability to find the min and/or max variable, along with cell number, at a time step. Mean would be really nice to have also.
* Be able to take this min and/or max and display it in tabular format. Allow it to be 2d plotted. Allow it to be written out as a CSV file.
* Be able to plot/display/output all variables for these cells at a time.
<Usecase> I have a user that has a dataset that is in 512 files, and has to run on 8-32 cores/pvservers. His data has 800 timesteps, and 8 blocks. Within this data, he needs a .csv file output with the cell number, stress, pressure and temperature at the MAXIMUM temperature cell in each time step.
* Included - screenshot from the EnSight Select (They call it a Query) command. Notice the many, many ways they can do the query. Min, max, cursor, cell, or location. Notice that it is all in one place, on one screen.
* Included - screenshot from the EnSight Find data/ spreadsheet/ 2d plot command (don't ask, they call it Query under Plots). Takeaway here is that a user can plot the maximum temperature, etc, and also output the table of this data for all timesteps.

A few ideas for enhancements for picking:
* Allow select to find the nearest point on the surface of an object, rather than having to go surface with edges, then rubber band select a point, then turn surface with edges back off. Turn this mode on by default.
* Allow select to either select once (current behavior), or turn on and stay on. When this mode is selected, as a user moves the mouse across a surface, the selected object will change. This would be used with cell or point labels turned on.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/10621When running paraview with X forwarding it segfaults.2019-03-05T10:39:44-05:00Kitware RobotWhen running paraview with X forwarding it segfaults.**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=10621). I just wanted to confirm the presence of a bug that arises as soon as you set the environment variable PV_PLUGIN_DEBUG in Windows. I installed everything I need on yet another fresh computer. This time it was:
Windows XP 64-Bit
Paraview 3.8RC1
CMake 2.8.1
Setup: Paraview with Shared-Libs, Qt-Support, Python
Compiler: Visual Studio 2008
The exact same behavior (crash) is on an equivalent setup with Windows 7 32-Bit. The crash happens as soon as an arbitrary plugin (e.g. one of the prelisted plugins) is loaded. On both systems everything, starting from QT was installed from scratch and no version of any involved software pieces were ever installed before on these systems.

In ParaView-3.8.0-RC1/VTK/Filtering/vtkHierarchicalBoxDataSet.cxx
line 291:
vtkAMRBox coarsebox(3,boxVec,boxVec+3);
wrongly assumes we are always dealing with 3D grids, because it creates a coarse box of dimensionality 3, instead of looking at the current box' Dimensionality.
The side effect is that when running with 2D data, we get messages like that
Generic Warning: In /local/apps/ParaView-3.8.0-RC1/VTK/Filtering/vtkAMRBox.cxx, line 625
This box cannot be coarsened
due to the fact that the sanity check on the 3rd dimension fails.
vtkAMRBox returns and the Visibility arrays are wrong.
The consequence is that isocontour lines are duplicated over ALL levels without visibility arrays.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/10607Enabling dataset visibility wiggles camera2019-03-05T10:39:45-05:00Kitware RobotEnabling dataset visibility wiggles camera**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=10607). ---
Right now selections in parallel coordinates generate an ID list. When you're looking at a time-dependent data set, then, the red selection lines in the PC chart are animated along with the other views when you hit "play", showing how the quantities associated with these IDs change over time.
Another useful option would be to keep the range of the original box(es) constant, which would generate a query-type selection, so you could monitor which points or cells exhibit that attribute range. Right now queries can't be chained, which would be necessary to correspond to a multi-axis selection in the PC chart, but I think Utkarsh said this is on the horizon. I don't know how exactly this would work since query-based selections seem to be a ParaView-only thing for now, but I think it would be a nice feature which would fit in well with the parallel coordinates paradigm.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/10601Charts: Parallel Coords Global IDs selection problem2019-03-05T10:39:45-05:00Kitware RobotCharts: Parallel Coords Global IDs selection problem**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=10601). I was playing with the parallel coordinates chart in ParaView and came across a strange problem: Selections work fine if I'm doing it by ID (set in Selection Inspector panel Selection Type), but if I have the Selection Type set to Global Node IDs the list of Global IDs is twice as long as it should be, and alternates -1 values with the correct IDs.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/10598SpreadSheet view doesn't work unless there is PointData2019-03-05T10:39:45-05:00Kitware RobotSpreadSheet view doesn't work unless there is PointData**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=10598). If you make a source (I tested with a cone source), split the view to
show a spreadsheet view, and select a point on the cone, nothing shows
up in the spreadsheet view. In fact, under Attribute the only option
is FieldData. If you do something so that the points get PointData
(e.g. GenerateSurfaceNormals), you can then select a point and see the
normal, coordinate, and point ID of the selected point. I'd suggest it be changed so that the coordinate and ID could be seen even if the object doesn't have any
