Hi all,
I'm still struggling with Paraview to read files in Tecplot format. I'm using some examples from this site:
http://people.sc.fsu.edu/~jburkardt/data/tec/tec.html
The 3D examples are read correctly in Paraview, but the examples
http://people.sc.fsu.edu/~jburkardt/data/tec/simpxy.dat
and
http://people.sc.fsu.edu/~jburkardt/data/tec/simpxy2.dat
are read but can't be plotted. All the statistics are N/A (Type, Number of Cells, Number of Points), no bounds are recognized, and the Spreadsheet view is empty. The files are read correctly and plotted correctly on Tecplot.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/14173Error Building Catalyst2018-08-08T22:26:29-04:00Kitware RobotError Building Catalyst**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=14173). I'm creating a pvpython application with ParaViewWeb, and it requires the interaction mode to be 2D/parallel projection style. It was a bit confusing that ParaView provided some nice sensible default camera manipulators for 3D interaction mode, but none for 2D.
I've attached a patch that provides the same 2D defaults that appear in the PV GUI application: left click to pan and right click to zoom. I think this is important for anyone creating pvpython apps that might want to use 2D interaction mode.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/14168vtk python modules installed in wrong location2018-08-08T22:26:29-04:00Kitware Robotvtk python modules installed in wrong location**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=14168). This is exactly the same problem that was reported in issue 12694 and was fixed with version 3.12. However, it seems to have resurfaced now with version 4.0.1. While trying to upgrade openSUSE's paraview package to version 4.0.1, I see that the installation script tries to install vtk's python modules in
/usr/bin/Python/vtk/
instead of in
/usr/lib(64)/paraview/
Version 3.98.x used to build just fine on the same version of openSUSE. Please have a look at the spec file and let me know if I am doing something wrong that is triggering this issue. The spec file is here

The test TestSetGet.tcl is unreliable because it does not correctly initialize objects before using them leading to access and use of uninitialized memory.
These issues seem for the most part related to use of uninitialized bounds in datasets, bounding boxes, actors etc.
The attached valgrind log file illustrates the issue.
Either the test needs to more careful about initializing objects before using them or the objects need to initialize themselves better or detect uninitialized use and prevent themselves from using uninitialized memory.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/14166Add ability to clip by cylinder2018-08-08T22:26:29-04:00Kitware RobotAdd ability to clip by cylinder**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=14166). The binary distribution of ParaView 4.0.1 (Linux) downloaded from paraview.org has problem volume rendering vtkImage larger than certain size.
To reproduce:
1. start paraview.
2. choose the Wavelet source.
3. set the extend to some "large" number like [-150, 150] for each dimension.
4. choose Volume as representation.
5. ParaView crashes with the following message:

I am attempting to use pqFileChooserWidget to select a path for storing temp files in my properties panel, and I am having trouble.
I am using it as follows:
create a custom property panel widget using a pqFileChooserWidget as the ui.
Set setUseDirectoryMode(true)
When selecting a path, the following odd behavior occurs:
1) Select the path the I want
2) click OK
3) in the dialog, the path ONE STEP BELOW the selected path is displayed.
For example: if I select /tmp, the ui will show that / is selected. If I select /tmp/sc01a, the ui shows /tmp as selected.
Could someone provide some information on why this may be occurring?https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/14161User should be able to set ColorButton size2018-08-08T22:26:29-04:00Kitware RobotUser should be able to set ColorButton size**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=14161). We need to be able to build ParaView with an external VTK. First issue encountered was:
CMake Error at CMake/ParaViewModuleTop.cmake:61 (include):
include could not find load file:
vtkGroups
Call Stack (most recent call first):
CMakeLists.txt:495 (include)
CMake Error at CMake/ParaViewModuleTop.cmake:184 (include):
include could not find load file:
TopologicalSort
This can be fixed by installing those files. The attached patch fixes that.
Next issue is:
CMake Error: File /Wrapping/Java/JavaDependencies.cmake.in does not exist.
CMake Error at /usr/lib64/cmake/vtk/vtkWrapJava.cmake:162 (CONFIGURE_FILE):
configure_file Problem configuring file
Call Stack (most recent call first):
/usr/lib64/cmake/vtk/vtkJavaWrapping.cmake:40 (vtk_wrap_java3)
/usr/lib64/cmake/vtk/vtkWrapping.cmake:67 (vtk_add_java_wrapping)
/usr/lib64/cmake/vtk/vtkModuleMacros.cmake:565 (vtk_add_wrapping)
ParaViewCore/VTKExtensions/Core/CMakeLists.txt:81 (vtk_module_library)
Two issues - JavaDependencies.cmake.in is not installed, and vtkWrapJava.cmake is not looking for it in the correct place. Code is:
SET(dir ${CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR})
IF(VTK_WRAP_JAVA3_INIT_DIR)
SET(dir ${VTK_WRAP_JAVA3_INIT_DIR})
ENDIF(VTK_WRAP_JAVA3_INIT_DIR)
CONFIGURE_FILE("${dir}/JavaDependencies.cmake.in"
"${CMAKE_CURRENT_BINARY_DIR}/JavaDependencies.cmake" IMMEDIATE @ONLY)
From vtkJavaWrapping.cmake:
set(VTK_WRAP_JAVA3_INIT_DIR "${VTK_SOURCE_DIR}/Wrapping/Java")
So it looks like this is just not capable of being run outside of the VTK source tree.https://gitlab.kitware.com/paraview/paraview/-/issues/14153xdmf reader crash using stride2023-08-31T04:55:06-04:00Kitware Robotxdmf reader crash using stride**This issue was created automatically from an original [Mantis Issue](http://paraview.org/Bug/view.php?id=14153). Hi,
I have a problem with something a priori easy to calculate but in which I really don't succeed to do...
I want to calculate a heat flux in a flat plate (with a thickness) and so I calculate the gradient of the temperature (with GradientOfUnstucturedDataSet). In then take the component of the gradient which is normal to the face I want to have the heat flux.
In the solid, the values given are good (non zero) and equal to the theoretical values, ok...
But when I want to show the normal component of gradient on a boundary face by using ExtractBlock and then ExtractSurface, the values of the gradient are 0 everywhere... But in the volume it is still non zero !
Here are pictures showing the problem. In the first image, I plot the temperature on a flat plate (with thickness) and I calculate the gradient. I have compared to the theorical values and it is okay.
In the second image, I wanted to plot the value of the gradient in a boundary face of the flat plate but I have 0 everywhere...(which is however calculated in the volume... I have also tried to project the values by using "PointDataToCellData" and "Cell centers" but it doesn't work...
Is it a bug ?
