VS: 'Cannot restore timestamp' on network share
I am experiencing a problem under Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Visual Studio Community Edition 2015 Update 3, and CMake 3.20.1 (as well as previous releases).
I have scripts for building VTK, ITK and other custom projects. The compilation stage consistently fails, and fails at the same point, if I use a build directory on a network share, the projects build successfully instead if built on a local drive (I need to build on a share in order to have backups and to make the built binaries available to other colleagues).
For example, for one project, if I use as destination directory:
in the above
P: is a mapped share with read/write access
the build consistently fails with a message:
CUSTOMBUILD : CMake error : Cannot restore timestamp P:/Libraries_Requiring_Compile/vtkNESLibrary/vtkNESLibrary-bin/3rd_party_libs/ACVD/VolumeProcessing/Examples/CMakeFiles/generate.stamp
if as destination directory I use:
D: is a local drive, and otherwise the path is identical the build is successful.
The above example regards a custom project, but I am unable to build ITK for the same reasons.
In the past I used to regularly build with network shares as destination. Does anyone have any advise regarding causes or solutions?
Thanks in advance for any suggestion,
